– Publishing asshole of the week award goes to…Chris Goldberg for not discussing the obvious problem of homophobia/misogyny as the primary reason dudebros like him are no longer reading, i.e., novels are “gay” or for “girls” because they are naturally introspective and...

– The BBC’s spastic/idiotic World Have Your Say radio show. Thanks for asking, BBC! I’m so relieved that the pope finally spoke up about this. It’s exactly what I’ve been wanting to hear, and the rainforest analogy is srsly genius! Next up: the “solution” to the gay...

– AOIBHEANN SWEENEY | Weekly Dig
I just finished reading Sweeney’s debut novel from last year, Among Other Things I’ve Taken Up Smoking. I reccommend it, especially based on the above quote. I enjoyed Valencia, but there are few other modern “queer girl” books about boozing, drugs and unsafe sex that...

Keep your eyes on the prize, boys. Obama’s campaign to unify the country — which last I checked includes millions of Warren’s fellow travelers — is in the service of an administration whose stated policy positions are the most supportive ever on LGBT civil rights. Winning over support for a pro-gay president from anti-gay leaders isn’t just defensible, it’s...

Indie kid, glockenspiel fan, had that album about Illinois out like a decade ago? What’s he up to these days?
Does this mean that the orchestrated-pop revival is finally over and I can unpretentiously listen to the Bee Gees first five albums?

Best line: “Calling the selection of Rick Warren an example of “Obama’s deft manipulation of the politics of symbolism” is a catastrophe of American journalism.”
Calling it a “dick move” is pretty apt, too.
What Obama said this morning, re: Warren
butnotmine:
PETER SLEVIN, WASHINGTON POST: I have a question about pastor Rick Warren. He holds a number of social views at odds with your own views and your strong supporters. I’m wondering what went into your decision to choose him for this prominent role as you embark on your own presidency at a time when you are dotting every I and crossing every t to send some important signals?

Hey ya’ll, The Times actually refered to Sontag and Leibovitz as lovers!! In case you missed the last 30 years of their coverage, they for some reason seem to think that these ladies - as well as Maddow and her partner...

I finally got the time to watch to watch the Stewart v. Huckabee discussion last night and this Feministing post raises an interesting contextual point on what to include topically (vs. in the boundaries of time) in interviews. It’s a bit sad, but I also think it’s worth noting that Stewart and Huck talking about these things in an actual discussion is novel for...

I didn’t even know that was happening, but I did skip work today. Hahaha.
I called in gay today. And am now doing gay activist-y things with the day.
I couldn’t do it — too scared of getting laid off! — but I admire anyone who did!

I would pay $150 if it meant that the trains ran more frequently and were less crowded. But unfortunately any extra money has to pay for golf-club memberships and early retirements.

You have to have grown up in this sinkhole of a state to truly appreciate the suppurating glory in seeing your pus-faced governor seized, apparently from his bed, before he can “sell” the vacant senate seat of the President-Elect, all reported by a bankrupt newspaper.

I too have loved Paterson since his seriously awesome inauguration speech in March — “Let me introduce myself again: my name is David Paterson and I’m the Governor of New York!” — and happily enough (given that these sorts of affairs tend to wear thin), I still think he’s the best politician in the country!
