Having just returned from Florida, I can totally identify with the beauty and heartbreak of nature in this state. There’s something mesmerizing about the way the sunlight reflects off the plants, even the lowliest ones, like I was sitting on the porch of my parents’ condo basically tripping/hypnotized by the infinite field of CRAB GRASS in front of me, and my 80 yo mother was like, ‘umm are you okay?’
January 2012: I finally understand the mystical majesty of swamplandia.
The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and Blair Audubon Center is a magical 14,000-acre preserve located near Naples, Florida, in the heart of the Western Everglades, that’s home to the largest remaining stand of old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America as well as four native habitats.
